NAMMAN Disclaimer — Shadchanus Gelt, Conduct, and Privacy

Shadchanus Gelt Guidelines

At NAMMAN, we feel privileged to play a role in your journey toward building a bayit ne'eman b'Yisrael. As part of this sacred process, we'd like to share important guidelines regarding shadchanus gelt in the event of a successful shidduch.

In accordance with Halacha when a shidduch made through one of our platform's shadchanim leads to the chuppah, it is appropriate to express hakaras hatov by giving shadchanus gelt.

The recommended amount, based on Toronto community standards, is a minimum of $3,600, typically divided equally between both sides of the couple ($1,800 per side). NAMMAN will provide a charitable tax receipt, which may reduce the actual cost to each family by approximately half.

This contribution directly supports:

  • The shadchanim who were involved in making the shidduch
  • NAMMAN's nonprofit platform, allowing us to continue serving singles and families in the community

We understand that financial circumstances vary. If contributing the full amount presents a challenge, please reach out to us. We are happy to discuss an appropriate and meaningful contribution that reflects your appreciation and aligns with your means.

Conduct Toward Shadchanim

  • Our shadchanim are volunteers who generously give their time and care to help singles on their shidduch journey.
  • All users are expected to treat shadchanim with respect, patience, and derech eretz.
  • Disrespectful or inappropriate behavior toward shadchanim will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the platform.

Privacy & Confidentiality

  • All information submitted to NAMMAN or shared with our shadchanim is treated with strict confidentiality and used solely for matchmaking purposes.
  • Sharing another user’s personal details without permission is strictly prohibited.

Platform Role

  • NAMMAN is a platform for connection and support. While we aim to facilitate meaningful matches, we do not guarantee dating, engagement, or marriage outcomes.
  • NAMMAN reserves the right to remove profiles or restrict access for anyone who violates these terms or compromises the integrity of the platform.

By using NAMMAN, you acknowledge and accept these terms. We appreciate your cooperation and wish you much bracha and hatzlacha on your journey.

Tips for a Great Shidduch Photo

Your photo is the first impression on a shidduch resume—it doesn’t need to be formal or stiff. The goal is to look like you: your best, most natural, put-together self.

Look Like Yourself

  • Choose a clear, friendly photo where your face is fully visible—no hats, sunglasses, or filters.
  • A warm, natural smile (not a forced grin) goes a long way.

Good Lighting = Great Photo

  • Use natural daylight—morning or late afternoon is best.
  • Avoid flash or harsh sun, which can wash you out or cast shadows.
  • Stand near a window or outside with a calm, uncluttered background.

Dress Neatly and Confidently

For Women:
  • Wear something modest and comfortable—like what you’d wear to a Shabbos meal or casual simcha.
  • Solid colors or simple prints look best on camera.
  • Natural makeup and minimal jewelry work well.
  • It’s fine to use a photo from a simcha (like a wedding or engagement) as long as you also include a more everyday photo that shows your usual look.
For Men:
  • Choose neat, clean, and well-fitting clothes.
  • Tucking in your shirt or ironing your clothes can make a big difference in how polished you appear.

Photo Guidelines

  • Aim for a clear head-and-shoulders photo
  • No selfies, mirror pics, or cropped group photos
  • Keep the focus on you—no pets, children, or others in the frame
  • A second, relaxed photo (e.g., walking outdoors or laughing) can be a nice touch

Ask a Friend

  • Don’t take it yourself—ask a friend to take several shots while you chat.
  • Often the best photo is the one that feels most natural.

Avoid

  • Filters or heavy editing
  • Blurry, pixelated, or dark photos
  • Glam studio shots that don’t feel authentic

Quick Photo Checklist

  • Face is clear and well-lit
  • Natural smile
  • Simple, tidy background
  • High-quality (not grainy or blurry)
  • Just you in the frame
  • Feels like you
